    First, I am not a nautical person, but interested in shipping as an industry.
    That said, seems that ships could be fitted with a steam system with outlets embedded into the side of a vessel. Pirates start scaling the side, system initiated and swoosh severely scalded pirates fall into the sea to drown. Thinking is that it would put considerable risk into the pirates “business model”.
    Thanks and I hope you will not laugh too hard at my lack of sophistication in the actual design and operation of ships. But hey, it could work,cost another issue.
